I am asked on a daily basis what can be done to get rid of "blackheads" or "large pores" on the nose. Many of my clients, not just those being treated for acne, are concerned about this issue. If you look at the picture above, most of what you see are not blackheads at all. They are sebaceous filaments, also known as oil glands or just normal pores. Unless your skin is very dry, you will have sebaceous filaments on the nose, under the lip on the chin, and possibly on the cheeks near the nose.
These oils glands/pores are healthy and meant to be there. Even if they are "extracted", they will soon fill and be visible within days of extracting.
The photo above shows a Face Reality client who actually does have blackheads and a few milia between the healthy sebaceous filaments. Actual blackheads and milia can be extracted during your in-clinic treatment. To ensure they don't reappear, you'll be given products to help keep your pores clear and ensure blackheads and milia don't return. You'll want to make sure everything you place on your skin, including foundation and other makeup, don't contain pore clogging ingredients.
The best way to tell if your "blackheads" are actually blackheads is just to look. Are they the same size as the other "blackheads" on your nose or chin area? If they are, then they're sebaceous filaments.
Unless you have very oil-dry skin, you and everyone else has sebaceous filaments/pores. When standing a couple of feet away from others, you can't even see the pores on the nose.
Unfortunately, many pictures we see in magazines are photo-shopped and airbrushed. We've become so accustomed to seeing these that we don't have realistic expectations of what is healthily, normal, and truly beautiful. Learn to love the pores on your nose. They help to keep that beautiful face healthy.
